Probably my favourite thing about photographing weddings is the range of emotions condensed into a single day that I get to bear witness to. The connections and chemistry between couples - and their friends and family - is a joy for me. The opportunity to tell those stories is what drives the pictures that I make for my couples.
This was a special and memorable wedding for me. I knew it was going to be a great day - not least because Oli and Leanne were so on board with their wedding being photographed with a documentary approach. No fuss, no endless rounds of posed pictures, just the story of the day - as it happened.
(That and I’ve know Oli for years)
A really relaxed day from start to finish - bridal prep to the wedding ceremony and then to one of the best wedding receptions I’ve ever been to at the rather wonderful Plume of Feathers (a perfect country pub - just down the road from the church).
It was evident from the outset that everyone was absolutely determined to have a great time and enjoy each others company - many people having not been able to see each other and hang out together for a really long time.
But it was the Grooms speech that will stick with me for the longest time.
What Oli and Leanne had been through to get to where they are is remarkable. They are very much a team.
Suffice to say there wasn’t a single person in that room that didn’t get, at the very least, ever so slightly damp around eyes by the end of that speech. You could have heard a pin drop. It was wonderful.
So how do you follow that?
By going bananas on the dancefloor, that’s how.
No one held back. At all.
Like the best evening you ever had down the pub with your mates.
But much, much better…
A phenomenal day and a wonderful couple.
