Authors Portrait, Headshot and Branding Photography - Maz’s Portrait Session

Portrait of an author sitting at her desk surrounded by scrunched up paper and a pile of books

Maz Evans - author of the “Who Let The Gods Out” series and the much acclaimed, recently released, “Over My Dead Body” - is a force of nature.

Maz came to me, needing some branding portraits and a book cover portrait for the upcoming release of Over My Dead Body, - with supporting marketing and branding images ahead of a string of literary festival appearances before the publishing of her book.

Over My Dead Body is her first adult release, having enjoyed a prolific career as a children’s writer.

Safe to say, Maz wasn’t particularly looking forward to having a portrait session with me (or anyone else, for that matter - see below):

“I’d rather have pins stuck in my eyes than have my photo taken, but it’s new headshot o’clock and Will made the whole experience such fun.”

There’s nothing I can do about how my clients might feel about having their portraits and headshots made ahead of their session.

It’s a weird proposition, having someone make pictures of you, with nowhere to hide, in their space and under their instruction.
I can say “It’ll be fine”, “Don’t worry” or “Just relax, it’ll be fun” until I’m blue in the face.

Why should that make any difference to how someone feels, with legitimate anxiety, about what’s (let’s face it) a palpably strange and potentially nerve-wracking activity? At least for the majority of people.

So I don’t try and talk you out of feeling the way you might feel.

What I do guarantee, is that by the time we’re done, you will have changed your mind…
I can direct you if you need me to. But mostly, we’ll just be talking. I’ve no idea about what, before you get here - but that’s what we’ll be doing.

So be nervous, be anxious - that’s fine - but it won’t last.

And I’ll be really surprised if you don’t end up enjoying our session! Maz did. Despite everything. No ‘eye pins’ necessary.

The pictures were so stunning, I asked him to do some headshots for my work. I loathe having my picture taken, but Will made me feel so at ease and I was thrilled with the pictures. Cannot recommend him highly enough, he’s a superstar.
