Reportage Style Team Headshots

Relaxed Team Portraits

When Resolution Interiors approached me about updating their team headshots for their new website, I was excited to hear that they wanted something different.

Resolution Interiors are a modern, dynamic, and creative company that provides complete solutions for stylish interior design, fit-out, and refurbishment of commercial, public, leisure, hospitality, and retail spaces.

They’re an energetic and innovative team - bland headshots against a homogenous backdrop don’t fit the bill.

They wanted to capture their team dynamics authentically, documenting genuine interactions and individual personalities, showcasing the team's energy and uniqueness to create a lasting impression and connection with their clients.

So, the brief was to shoot the team within their working environment in a relaxed reportage style.

It was critical that the office would be able to function, business as usual, during the shoot (x60 team members in total) with as little disruption as possible - so careful and thorough planning was essential.

The challenge was to produce high-quality headshots (or are they portraits?…) in a somewhat restrictive environment, with no supplementary lighting, without disturbing the working day of x60 people - and without compromising the quality of the images.

Capturing the Essence of the Team: Reportage Style Team Headshots

Reportage-style team headshots offer a refreshing and dynamic approach to capturing the essence of a team. Gone are the days of stiff, posed portraits; instead, reportage photography injects life and authenticity into the frame. By observing and documenting the interactions and emotions within the team, these headshots encapsulate the genuine camaraderie, professionalism, and personalities of each individual.

The result is a collection of images that truly reflects the team's spirit and provides a glimpse into their collaborative dynamics. Reportage-style team headshots add a touch of storytelling to traditional headshot photography, allowing viewers to connect with the team on a deeper level and appreciate their unique strengths and contributions.

Bringing in a lighting rig would’ve been both disruptive and impractical in a working office, so I limited myself to a couple of stands, some reflectors, and some flags to direct (or block) the existing light.

Fortunately, the RI office has a huge bank of windows (2 stories high) running down one side of the building (and it was a relatively overcast day, which helped).

Will was incredibly thorough in his approach from the get go, his early planning, and attention to detail made for a highly successful shoot. He was an absolute pleasure to work with - making a 60 team member shoot easy, and ensuring that all felt comfortable (however much they wanted or didn’t want their photo taken!). We are so happy with the final shots - that really capture our team looking relaxed, approachable, friendly and natural. A true representation of them, and us as a brand, as opposed to some stiff head shot. Couldn’t recommend Will highly enough!

So it was a case of finding the best light, closest to the desk where people were working. Some desk hopping was inevitable but the majority of the team were shot where they sat - no one was kept from their work for more than a few minutes.

‘B-Roll’

This is a very small selection of images shot of the RI team over 2 days. The client also required some ‘pick up’ shots to augment the content on their on the website, so we worked those into the schedule too.

The whole team were super helpful and friendly, which made what was quite a logistically difficult shoot, very much easier (Pippa & Ellie were amazing).

All in all, thanks to some extensive planning, the hugely co-operative (and fun) team at RI and great light, we had a really successful couple of days - and, most importantly - a happy client!
